One of my favorite writers, Glennon Doyle, says something along the lines of “we women are exceptionally well trained at being desired but have so little idea of what it means to desire something of our own.”

Today I want to tell you a little of love, what it is to fall and also to choose. Not that you don’t already know, but in the way that I have found it to be. Not with the person we were expecting, but with the person the heart can feel it’s way all the way through.

There is a difference between the idea you have in your head of what your love should be and the real love that meets you with skin on and becomes your new reality.

This love is not meant to impress but to imprint. They say it’s meant to change you but no, I'm not sure it’s meant to change you either. It is here to meet you right where you are and to build something. To build something both ancient and new. Something that has always existed, yet also never before. At least not in this form.

The secret many have failed to understand is what you build with this love doesn’t have to look like anything you have ever seen. It is a new art form to be crafted from your own imagination. Because if you are lucky what you found is not a just a lover but a friend.

Those who have found what is real will tell you it is not so extravagant as they have made it out to be. It is better because it true. It is aggravating and boring and hilarious and wonderful. All the plain and beautiful things that love should be.

Please remember, if you have found is a friend, then you have found the sacred. You have found everything.

And I have to tell you all of this because you either have love or you have its bud deep within you. These are the strange powers God gives to humanity. The ability to open up to both the bitter and the sweet.

If this serves as anything I hope it serves as your gentle reminder that you will become soft again. You will be a friend and a light and a hope made flesh to hands that hold you in the way you deserve to be. The way you were meant to be.

Love is from where you came and love will again make its way to you. Beware, it often comes to those that have settled comfortably into their own unsuspecting. And if you say yes, if you open up your arms again, get ready. A yes to her is a yes to your greatest fears and maybe even to the deep grief. But it is also a yes to living room dancing and laughing until you’re stomach hurts. A yes to her is a yes to life and everything it was meant to be.

And I hope that one day you do say yes even if it escapes you with the most gentle nod of fearful reservation. I hope you take that courage buried deep inside your chest and open yourself up to the pain that holds your beautiful.

Falling in love is a miracle and don’t let anyone tell you differently. It is here that we find ourselves in the synchronicity of two hearts beating, something that far exceeds our isolated beauty. We see the truth that we offer and the real magic that we have to bring. We see all the things that make life poetry.

The angels lie in gleeful witness to all the things that we are in this dance of hearts.

So don’t forget or take it for granted dear friend, because to fall in love is the true miraculous of being.
