Not my own words but a quote from Damon Thompson my dear brother sent me when I was breaking.
If you are torn in two, I pray these words go deep in you.
If they threw you out...
“One of the greatest gifts God gives people is rejection.
One of the most dangerous things people can ever go through is rejection.
And if you don’t see God as the loving father that he truly is, you'll process rejection incorrectly and you'll miss that it's a gift that actually sets you up for your greatest encounter with Jesus.
Everyone in this room has gone through rejection. There's a real difference between having gone through rejection and your dealing with the root of rejection.
We've got a million excuses for why we are dysfunctional, and listen, all dysfunction is an absence of authentic theology. And if you see God as an insensible judge, if you're not careful, you'll accept rejection from THEM as being rejection from HIM and you'll actually see them as agents to exercise His judgement on you.
But if you ever come into the real understanding of God as a loving father, then you'll realize that if they rejected you, it was because He was jealous for you.
If he’s judge, then they may be the gavel that he's using to judge you. But if he's a loving, accepting father, their rejection might be the gift he's giving you to show you,
I wasn't going to let THEM have you, I wanted you for myself.
He allows people to mishandle you so that you don't live the rest of your life dependent on people.
He knew that we had a propensity for codependence on people in the realm we could see, and he needed us to only have codependence rooted in the realm of the unseen.
So He lets people mishandle you in your story line not because they are to be representatives principally of Him. He lets people mishandle you so that he can exert his jealousy over you, which is to declare that,
If they throw you out, I’ll be the first one there to scoop you up.”
